Today I just finished reading Sidney Sheldon’s ‘Reckless’.
While reading the book, I was just struck by one thought (the book like any other thriller today talks of hackers, computer tracings, etc.): we are aware of technology invading our lives in the guise of mobiles, tablets, laptops, etc. Our lives can be traced and so many secrets uncovered. We are all very aware of this…….yet we let ourselves be consumed by these gadgets.
It is so very easy today to trace our calls, location, transactions, movements…..our lives are an open book. But yet day after day, minute after minute, we are yet slaves to the all -pervading technology….in any free moment we just pick up our cell phones and start fiddling around them. Have we ever paused to sometimes just enjoy the feeling of being by oneself? Have we sat in the car gazing out at passing buildings, trees rather than sit head bent into the mobile? Have we stood in any line just observing human behaviour all around rather than being devoured by our what’s app messages? No….because we are too busy….answering messages, downloading videos, forwarding forwards….
However, I think we should give ourselves a try. Some moments without our mobiles just basking in empty moments, thoughtless times and soaking in ambiences.
Yes. I think we should try.
