Too many choices

Remember the good old days when we had to buy a new car?

The choice was specific and limited….Fiat, Ambassador and later on the Maruti.

Simple, convenient and affordable.

No need to compare engines, power steerings, dashboard designs, power windows, power locks, etc.

The choices were limited. But don’t you think, so very simplistic and easy?

Today, step out to buy one and whoa……one is completely flummoxed with the brands, ranges, models, extra features, etc. And on the top of it, one model has 3 variants…..why can’t life be simpler?

And this is just not restricted to cars alone………walk to any store to buy anything and the variants just dazzle you. Simple denims are available in at least 20 style varieties…slim fit, comfort fit, skinny, and what not. Shoewear styles are crazily in number….from simple stilletoes, flats and platforms…..we are onto blocks, wedges, mules, and so on.

To as late as mobiles. Nokia  and Motorola ruled the day as recent as advent of mobiles And now all phones come up with different models as quickly  as sun shining the next day.

Name it and the range is  immense. Shampoos, sports shoes, detergents, soaps, etc.

The influx is crazy, the mind is completely boggled.

I agree that now we are spoilt for choices. And that it reflects human advancement, the sheer magnitude of it overwhelming and inspiring. The choices are also a testimony to human ingenuity. Its skill and its power.

But yet sometimes I yearn for the old-world simplicity….few choices, easier decisions.
